Western Baray

Very few realize that Siem Reap also has beaches – but we do! Along the lakeside of Western Baray, there are several beaches. This is a popular Khmer hide-out for swimming and picnics when the temperature rises…

Experience true Khmer food traditions along the beach while having a swim, a bit of a rest under the large, airy parasols, rent a “doughnut” or go out on the lake with a boat.

It was the Angkorian kings who built Barays, which are water reservoirs meant to catch and hold water. Each Baray would have an island with a temple in the middle of it. Western Baray is no different. The ruins of the West Mebon temple have some of the first animal carvings in natural scenes
