Visas
...are easily available on arrival at the international
airports in Phnom Penh and Siem Reap. When travelling overland, you
can also get visas at the Thai border crossings at Aranyaprathet/Poipet
and Hat Lek/Koh Kong. 2 photos are required. As at now, visas are
not available at the Vietnamese or Lao border crossings.
One month tourist visas cost $20 and business visas $25. However, if you
cross into Cambodia by land, immigration might refuse to accept your
US$ and ask you for 1000 baht for the tourist visa and 1200 baht for a
business visa instead..... If you're planning to spend some
time in Cambodia, bear in mind that tourist visas can only be extended one
month, whereas
business visas can be extended for as long as you like.
The visa process is very easy and there
is absolutely no need to pay anyone anything extra to process the
visa for you!!!
Please note: Some Khao San Road-based travel agencies and
tour operators offer
transport to Siem Reap for prices as low as 50-80 baht!!! The
agencies make up for this cheap transport by ‘selling’
passengers to guesthouses in Siem Reap. We have, unfortunately, had
reports from several travellers which have had hefty arguments and/or
paid an extra fee in order to get out of the guesthouse of which
they had been ‘delivered’.
