The Landmine Museum

Cambodia has one of the worst landmine problems in the world. Aki Ra, a former soldier, has devoted his life to help clearing this country from mines and exploding devices. In 1999, he founded the landmine museum to display the weapons he found when he was out clearing mines.

Aki Ra's Landmine Museum Tucked deep inside a village in Siem Reap, the Aki Ra's Landmine Museum is hard to get to, but you shouldn't miss it. Also the home of the Akira Mine Action Gallery, the musuem houses an amazing collection of defused landmines and unexploded ordnance that Aki Ra has amassed over the years. Through the displays and artifact, you a real sense of what Cambodia and its people had been through.

The museum gives you a great opportunity to learn more about the history of war and landmines in Cambodia. In the museum live many young landmine victims that are being taken care of by Akira. If you want, they will guide you around, explain about the different mines, and maybe tell their story.
